Finding the tools and the inspiration

I and a friend are heading to the Gem & Lapidary Wholesale show in Orlando tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find some excellent quality pearls, gemstone beads and uncut rough for cabbing next summer. I like to pick pearls out in person so I know I'm getting good quality. Having the right stones to work with is the first thing I need to create a design. I will likely be investing in some ergonomic pliers of varying types (ergonomic = expensive). I can feel the stress on my hands with the cheapo ones that are available everywhere so its time to upgrade my tools before I hurt myself!

Prepping for a festival

I spent most of this week adding to my stock of pendants in preparation for the Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival next weekend. Created 2 extra special ones, 5 with different sizes and shades of turquoise, and ALOT of black onyx. Baisc black is always popular!

It's that time of year again! I just came back from my first show of the season, The Coconut Creek Craft Festival. It was very hot for this time of year but great to see customers in person again!

Coming later this week will be my show schedule through May 2010. Stay tuned!

SOLD! - Vintage HiPoint Motorcycle or ATV Trailer - Fiberglass Enclosed -

The trailer has now gone to a new home. :-)

This is a HiPoint enclosed fiberglass motorcycle trailer, year unknown, cost new $6186. I have owned it less than six months to haul my craft show display (not included), but my tow vehicle bit the dust and I decided to get a van and pass the trailer on to a motorcycle enthusiast who could appreciate the vintage trailer and get the most use out of it. I pulled it easily with a 1994 Crown Victoria with a Class 3 hitch installed by Uhaul on my car. This trailer was also previously used for years by another crafter, who purchased it from a Harley Davidson owner as evidenced by the HD decal still displayed on the rear. The trailer is dual axle, the four tires are like new tread and there is a full size spare included. We laid a new 3/4" plywood floor over the old floor just 2 months ago. There is the interior sliding door cabinet, and front shelf. I have the original manual and price list for this trailer. The lighting works though some of the non-crucial running lights need new bulbs. I think there is wiring for brakes but I'm not certain the brakes are actually installed. I'm a jeweler not trailer mechanic. :-) I found I didn't need brakes in a flat area anyway. Below is listed the specifics for this trailer including original pricing, as taken from the manual. There is also a water tank and pump, I assume for cleaning your bike after an eventful day. I never tried to operate it so the functional status is unknown.

$3895 - HP14 Raised Roof - Walk on standard Roof line, 14' overall length, Box size 10x 6.5 wide, 6' ceiling height. Tandem Axle 4000# GVWR, electric brakes (not certain), Drop Down Ramp Door carpeted, 12V Dome, Tongue Jack, Curb weight of 1040#

$140 - Spare Tire and Wheel
$594 - 8' Awning
$80 - Dual Tail Lights
$195 - Work bench, steel framed
$210 - Overhead Cupboard
$47 - Clothing bar mounted to the overhead cupboard
$240 - Roof rack and ladder includes step plate on tongue
$600 - Custom gelcoat coloring
$185 - Two stripes different colors

Total cost new was $6186!!!!

This trailer just needs some love to make it sparkle again and with the included manual with electrical and all the other info you need the right person can make it new again!

My Current Show Schedule - Finally

After waiting and waiting and waiting, I finally have confirmations for many of the shows I applied to for the season here in Florida. I am providing information and links only for the shows that I am CONFIRMED. I have applied to more, some I'm on a wait list, some I still haven't heard back from, so check back often for updates and additions to my schedule. There will be more shows prior to Christmas, I'm just waiting for confirmation.

This schedule is also subject to change. There are often two shows scheduled on the same weekend but with differing rates of notice to me as to whether I've been accepted or not. I may post a confirmed show and then replace it with another show if I feel its better for my work.

My new display!

This was my old display when last seen fully set up at the Tampa Renaissance Faire this spring. It's only craft show worthy though, so I had to invest in a more art show worthy set up.

This is my new display! And the craft/art show promoters have looked over the photo and deemed it acceptable for me to attempt to apply to their "B" Art shows. I'm still not an "A" show display, they want even more expensive glass and wood cases for that!

Since PoshMama is a site that requires registration and login, she also posts her column on her blog. CapitolaGirl . This weeks column is about those of use who use parts of computers to make jewelry, I think I'm in good company!

Sometimes things just happen when they are supposed to. The woman who had the displays and craft supplies I purchased, also had one little thing I needed to be able to have the right display to get accepted to high end juried art shows. She had a trailer. After some begging and pleading from me, and discussion with her husband, they decided to sell me the trailer (they really didn't want to part with something so useful, but they did want to help an artist along, and her sister wanted it out of her driveway LOL).

I am now the proud owner of a circa 1980's - 90's Hipoint trailer. Anyway, the trailer in full length is 14', with a 6'x10'x6' interior. There is a roll down awning, a water tank, 4 new tires and a spare. With the cleanup I'll have to do, and the hitch I need to get on Grandma's Crown Victoria that I inherited, I'll be ready to hit the big time in shows!

Waiting until the jury is out....

Sigh. Well, I've applied to 18 shows from September 2008 through May 2009, and now I play the waiting game. Waiting until the show promotors see fit to let me know if I get into the shows. Tick tock. Tick tock.
